Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack rendered him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
